- NIST states that businesses of all sizes may outsource cybersecurity needs to specialized third parties, including MSPs and MSSPs, and recommends starting with clear cybersecurity outcomes and documented responsibilities. [1] –
- WatchGuard’s 2026 customer research and Barracuda’s 2025 customer survey both report demand for managed security support within their own survey populations, but those findings do not prove that any specific target account is buying now. [2] [3]
- CISA treats MSP and third-party access as a security consideration in ransomware guidance, which means a channel growth story should include trust, access, and responsibility–not only product features. [4]

Demand Is Useful Only When Its Boundary Is Clear
“MSP security demand” can mean several different things: a business is looking for outside cybersecurity support; an MSP wants to add or expand a managed security service; an existing customer wants a new security outcome; or a vendor sees engagement with content around a specific problem. These are different signals. A launch-ready campaign should record which signal exists and what it can legitimately support. A market survey can justify a segment hypothesis. It cannot justify telling a named prospect that it needs a particular product, has a security weakness, or is ready to buy.
Start With the Customer Outcome the MSP Can Carry
The cleanest partner story is a customer result that can be explained in ordinary business language: stronger protection around remote access, more consistent monitoring, a clearer response process, better backup and recovery readiness, or fewer gaps between tools and service responsibilities. The vendor can then map approved capabilities to that outcome. This order matters because MSPs ultimately have to translate technology into a service their customers can understand, purchase, and support.
The Partner Has to See a Business Model, Not Just a Product
A vendor may have a strong security capability and still have a weak MSP proposition. The partner needs to know who owns the customer conversation, what work the MSP performs, what the vendor performs, what prerequisites exist, how the offer fits the MSP’s service catalog, and how the commercial model works. Barracuda’s customer survey reports that surveyed organizations use MSPs for reasons including security-tool complexity, evolving strategy, and around-the-clock coverage. [3] The safe takeaway is not that every MSP should sell the same bundle. It is that an offer should solve an explainable customer problem and fit the partner’s delivery model.
Trust Is Part of Monetization
CISA’s ransomware guidance recommends considering MSP risk-management practices, formalizing security requirements in contracts, and applying least privilege and separation of duties to third-party access. [4] These are not sales objections to hide; they are part of a credible managed-security value proposition. Vendor and MSP teams should be able to explain responsibilities, access, monitoring, escalation, evidence, and what the customer remains accountable for.
Use Threat Context Without Fear Messaging
Acronis publishes current threat observations from its own telemetry and public-domain reporting. [5] Such research can help a campaign explain why security operations need continuous attention, but it should never be converted into a statement that a prospect is exposed, compromised, or likely to experience a specific event. The campaign should use threat research to frame the importance of readiness and service design, not to manufacture urgency.
Executive Metrics That Show Whether the Motion Is Real
- Percentage of target MSPs where the demand hypothesis is linked to a current source, partner conversation, customer signal, or observed campaign behavior.
- Percentage of eligible segments with one defined buyer outcome, approved capability map, and clear partner role.
- Partner enablement adoption: teams using the approved message, qualification questions, CTA, and handoff.
- MQL-to-SAL, SAL-to-SQL, SQL-to-meeting, and meeting-to-CRM-opportunity progression from actual campaign data.
- Number and age of offer, trust, service, pricing, or handoff exceptions that prevent repeatable scale.
- Partner-sourced or partner-influenced pipeline and realized revenue tracked separately from planning targets.
Standards and Evidence Mapping
The evidence set for this asset is deliberately bounded. Government and NIST material is used for risk-management, workforce, procurement, or control context. Vendor research is used only for the publisher’s stated survey, telemetry, incident, product, partner-program, or operating-model observations. No source is used to infer a named target account’s MSP relationship, buying intent, local security weakness, budget, product need, or expected commercial outcome.
